Welcome, I'm here, again, to bring you the latest updates in the thrilling world of VMware Multi Cloud Management. The past two months have been particularly exciting, as VMware Aria Operations has undergone a remarkable facelift, introducing a more intuitive interface. But what truly astounds me is the speed at which VMware is bringing new solutions to the market. Today, I'm delighted to share the announcement of two groundbreaking offerings: VMware Aria Guardrails and Aria Migration. While this list is not exhaustive, you can find detailed release notes through the provided links.

 

VMware Aria Automation (formerly vRealize Automation)
Cloud: May release available on 18/May/2023 - Release notes:
On-premises: version 8.12.1 available on 18/May/2023

  • Onboard resources can now count against project's quota;
  • A new day-2 action wich allows rebuild of a provisioning vSphere machines;

  • Reservation of IP address from internal IPAM;

  • VMware Aria brand has been officially introduced into the platform;
  • Individual automation services (Assembler, Service Broker, Pipelines) have been consolitated into a single tile.
  • First encarnation of Plugin based framework, which will allow us to respond faster to new cloud native services;

  • Ability to select storage types during provisioning (thin/thick/eager);
  • Custom forms can now have multiple versions just like cloud templates;


  • API for IPAM integration;
  • Support for Ansible Automation Controller (previously Ansible Automation Tower);

  •  Integration with Google Cloud Security command Center to be able to correlate information between cloud resources, posture configuration threats and vulnerabilities;

 

VMware Aria Operations (formerly vRealize Operations)

  • New Launchpad page replacing the older formely Quickstart, grouping together aspects of a flow of working.

  • New brand name, Aria Operations, introduced to the platform;
  • High Availability for Applications monitoring with Telegraf;
  • Dedicated cloud account for Google Cloud VMware Engine (GCVE), making management easier;
  • New automations for Automation Central, tasks such as power on/off VMS and snapshot selection based on criterias;
  • Run what-if scenarios for outdated scenarios;
  • The use of pre-defined VM's profile for capacity management;
  • Deactivation of some alerts to reduce the unecessary noise, check KB for the details;
  • Tighter integration with Aria Logs, with a dedicated frame inside Ops, now you can troubleshoot things faster from a central location;

VMware Aria Operations for Applications (formerly Tanzu Observability)
Cloud: from April to May releases - release notes

  • New Geo Map Chart to visualize ingested data by location;

  • warning about changes to the metrics obsolete period, in the next released it will go from 28 to 14 days to improve query performance;
  • Additional integrations improvements;
    • Istio: updated Setup and instructions based on Kubernetes Operators;
    • Envoy: updated Setup and instructions based on Kubernetes Operators;
    • RabbitMQ: updated Setup and instructions based on Kubernetes Operators;
    • Tanzu Application Services: updated to Troubleshooting and Workload dashboards;
 

VMware Aria Operations for Logs (formerly vRealize Log Insight)

  • New brand name, Aria Operations for Logs, introduced to the platform;
  • Support for 10 index partitions, allowing greater flexibility in date retention policies;
  • Agent support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9;
  • Capability to federate your On-Prem implementation with the SaaS offering;

  • Improvements to the upgrade process of Aria Operations, reducing the time it takes to upgrade it;
