Have you been considering a migration to VMware vSphere 6.0

Well, If you have, don’t forget to check the list of Guest Operation Systems supported by this new version.

Why ?

Every time a new major upgrade is released the supported Guest OS list is updated to remove the ones not supported anymore, the majority of the cases are about the ones which the vendor deprecated them, but it’s not all bad news there’s also the inclusion of new Guest OS that have been certified to run on this new platform.

It took me some time to compile such information for a vSphere 5.1 to vSphere 6.0 migration project and I decided to share with you guys and save some of your precious time.

So, here’s the list of Guest OS dropped from vSphere 5.1 to vSphere 6.0

Here you can find the new Guest OS added to vSphere 6.0 since vSphere 5.1

If you want to check for yourself, the information can be found at VMware Compatibility Guide;

- from the drop-dow menu select Guest OS;
- On Product Release Version, select the ESXi version you want to check;
- click on Update and View Results.

You could also filter further the results, just selecting the values either on OS Family or OS Vendor.

Reminder: The matrix above is a comparison between ESXi 5.1 and ESXi 6.0 only !!
